Jesus Christ the Divine Architect

Jesus Christ the Divine Architect, Acrylic and gold on birch, 4x6"

"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth."

God created the universe through his Divine Word, the Logos, who became incarnate for our salvation. This icon depicts God the Logos, Jesus Christ, creating the universe, as he stands in glory, a golden expanse.
In tracing the bounds of the cosmos, Christ places his compass point on Jerusalem, considered the center of the world since antiquity. Not only does it lie in the center of the earth geographically (the meeting point of Europe, Asia, and Africa), more importantly, in Jerusalem, Christ saved his creation by his life-giving death and third day resurrection. In the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, a stone between Golgotha and the Empty Tomb marks the exact center of the world.
Elements of this icon are based on similar ancient icons and illuminated manuscripts. This icon was commissioned for the drafting desk of an architect.

"How magnified are Thy works, O Lord! In wisdom hast Thou made them all; the earth is filled with Thy creation." Psalm 103 (104)
