Saint Theodosius

Saint Theodosius. Egg tempera and gold on panel. 8x10”. 2020.

The Holy, Right-believing Emperor Theodosius the Great was the last emperor who ruled over both the eastern and western portions of the Roman Empire. He ruled from 379 to 395 and made Christianity the official state religion of the Roman Empire. He was a strong defender of the Orthodox Christian faith, routing both paganism and Arianism. He is commemorated on January 17.

I recently completed this diptych of Saint Theodosius and Saint Chloe (Saint Paul’s co-worker in Corinth) as a commission for infant twins who were baptized today. Many years Theo and Chloe!
